He was educated at the University of Georgia and Mercer University School of Law. He began his practice working for a firm outside of metro Atlanta where he represented banks and other lenders, conducting real estate closings, foreclosures, suits on notes, creditor representation in bankruptcy court, while also providing advisory services.
He worked in the DeKalb County Law Department, where he represented the Board of Assessors, working with the chief assessors on largest commercial property tax appeals. His experience includes appeals of mixed use properties, malls, apartments, office buildings, shopping centers, car dealerships, warehouses, raw land, and the old GM plant. He also represented several tax commissioners, advising them on tax sale and excess funds issues. He handled bankruptcy issues for all departments; this included protecting tax and water bills. He was also tasked with representing the county in its more prominent litigation, from contract cases to wrongful death actions.
Back in private practice, he uses his knowledge gained from government work to benefit real estate property owners.
